Giants:  All our pups have been placed for the year. We will be planning two litters for next year, 2010. Neffy should be having her pups sometime in April and Shakira will be in June.

Mini Schnauzers:  All pups have been placed and our next litters will be in spring of 2010.

Pugs:   I have one female pug puppy available to go home. She is around ten weeks old.

Always remember that it is far more important to buy from the breeder you feel the most comfortable with and not the one who has the puppy when YOU want it. It makes no difference when you bring a pup into your home. Spring, summer, fall or winter, it's going to be work. Good breeders work around the females' schedule and puppy mills work around the market. You always have the right to choose.

Thanks

LINDSAYLEIGH’S PUG ORIGINS

Contrary to popular belief the pug did not originate from the movie Men in Black. The pug is from the Queen Victorian times. The William of Orange (1689-1704) kept several as pets. Since this time the pug has been a favorite of royalty.   The pug is a small, square, cobby dog generally weighing between 14-18 poundsThe pug has been referred to as "Multo in Parvo" meaning " a lot of dog in a small space"

The pug is believed to come from the Orient and is a longer-legged smooth coated version of the Pekingese.  It's believed the name pug came from the old English word "pugnus" meaning "someone dearly loved."   They were originally bred for companionship.  They have a wonderful temperment and only want to please his/her humans.  Pugs used to be a rare breed, but over the years the pug population is growing in leaps and bounds.

The pug has almost-human expression with its large dark eyes and wrinkled forehead they quickly charm their way into a multitude of hearts. The pug is playful and has a wonderful disposition. The Pug makes a great family pet and lives well in town or the country. They do shed and need regular brushing to maintain a good coat. They require minimal exercise and weight gain can be a problem if not exercised.

  • All my pug puppies go home between 9-10 weeks of age.
  • CKC Registration with a Non-Breeding Agreement
  • Vet Checked
  • First course of Vaccinations
  • Microchipped
  • 1 year Health Guarantee against heriditary diseases
  • 6 weeks of Pet Plan Pet Insurance
  • Iams Puppy Pack

The cost of a pug puppy is $1500 plus GST.  A $500 refundable deposit is required to put your name on the waiting list for next available puppy.  My female pugs are only bred once a year so there is usually a waiting list.

Pugs have health problems as is any pure bred dog.  Because of their bulging eyes they can develop numerous eye problems.  Almost 1/2 of all pugs will need eye medication at some point in their lives.  There has been an increase in luxating patella's (slipping knee caps) in their back legs, which almost always requires surgery.  Pugs are also prone to elongated soft pallettes, pinched or undersized nostrils, narrow tracheas, spinal problems, liver shunts and last but not least Pug Dog Encephalitis, which has no cure.

Unfortunately, with the increase in popularity of this breed, there is also an increase in the health problems due to irresponsible breeding.  Please do not buy your puppy from a Pet Store.  They know nothing about the background, health, temperment or the parents of the pups they sell.  Buy your pug from a reputable breeder who knows their dogs and can guarantee the health and temperment of the pugs.  You will probably end up paying a lot less for a quality well-adjusted puppy.

Please call or email us for up to date information or check out our website for updates.  You can also contact Pugalug Pug Rescue at www.pugalug.com for more information on the breed or to ask how you can adopt a homeless pug.
